1 Eligibility
1.1 Riders
Open to any rider who holds a Road Race Licence issued by the ACU, SACU or MCUI. Competitors with an MCUI Licence must also produce Start Permission and Insurance from their FM. Riders must be at least 16 years of age at 01.03.08 and comply with the licence restrictions in the 2008 ACU Handbook.
The Under 25 Championship will be open to all competitors aged under 25 years of age on 1st March 2008.
1.2. Machines
Open only to Suzuki GSX-R600 Machines supplied by Crescent Suzuki as part of the GSX-R Trophy ‘Go Race’ Package.
2. ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy – Technical Regulations
To be admitted in the 2008 ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy, motorcycles must be Suzuki GSX-R 600 K8 motorcycle, supplied by Crescent Suzuki as part of the ACU ‘Go Race’ package and comply in every respect with all the requirements for Road Racing as specified in ACU Road Racing Technical Rules contained in the current ACU Handbook, and the following regulations:
- Amendments to the technical regulations may be made by the Road Race Committee at any time in order to ensure fairer competitions.
- If a motorcycle is found not to be in conformity with the technical regulations during or after the practices, the rider will be subject to loss of grid position/qualifying time.
- If a motorcycle is found not to be in conformity with the technical regulations after a race, the rider will be disqualified. Further penalties (such as fine, a suspension and/or a withdrawal of Championship or points) may also be imposed
- This penalty may be lower at the discretion of the Clerk of the Course only if the none conformity involves a minor item not connected with performance or safety.
- The ACU Technical Director will decide on the technical legality of any Superstock 600 motorcycle. The legality can be proved also in comparison to similar OEM parts
2.1 Minimum Weights
The minimum weight value is determined by the dry weight (in kg) minus 14kg.
The dry weight of a homologated motorcycle is defined as the total weight of the empty motorcycle as produced by the manufacturer (after removal of fuel, vehicle number plate, tools and main stand when fitted, but with engine oil and other liquids at optimal level). The result is rounded off to the nearest digit.
In the final inspection at the end of the race, the checked machines will be weighed in the condition they were at the end of the race; nothing can be added to the machine. This includes water, oil, or fuel.
At any time of the event, the weight of the whole machine must not be less than the minimum weight with a tolerance of 1 kg.
2.2 Number Plate Colours
The background colours and figures for ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy are exclusive to the GSX-R Trophy Series and are supplied through Crescent Suzuki. Only numbers supplied by Crescent Suzuki may be used.
The allocated number for the rider must appear 3 times on the machine. The 2 side numbers must be located on the left and the right sides of the fairing or the seat.
There must be a clear space of 5cms around all number plates
The numbers must be visible to spectators and officials from both sides of the track.
In case of a dispute concerning the legibility of numbers, the decision of the Technical Director will be final.
2.3 Fuel
Engines must function on normal unleaded fuel with a maximum lead content of 0.005 g/l (unleaded) and a maximum MON of 90 (see the ACU Handbook 2008)
2.4 Machine Preparation
Machines can be prepared by Crescent-Suzuki at an
additional charge of £250 plus VAT.
Machines prepared by riders must comply with the following:
- All road body work and mirrors must be removed.
- All lights and indicators must be removed
- The side stand must be removed
- The upper chain guard may be removed
- The radiator fan may be removed
The motorcycle must comply with the 2008 ACU Handbook in relation to lock wiring of fastener and oil containment etc and all other standard safety and conformity regulations.
2.5 Parts that CANNOT be changed
All items not mentioned in the following articles must remain fitted, as originally produced by the manufacturer and/or supplied by Crescent Suzuki as part of the ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy series. The appearance from the front, rear and the profile of the Suzuki GSX-R 600 motorcycles must (except when otherwise stated) conform to the homologated shape (as originally produced by the manufacturer).
The paint scheme is compulsory and must match exactlythe design on the standard race body work supplied by Crescent Suzuki on new GSX-R Trophy race bikes.
Front Forks
Only the following standard original internal parts of the forks can be modified or replaced:
- Springs
- Any quality and quantity of oil can be used in the front forks.
- The height and position of the front fork in relation to the fork crowns is free.
- Steering damper is a control item and may not be altered or modified in any way.
- The steering damper cannot act as a steering lock limiting device.
Rear Suspension Unit
Rear suspension unit is a control item and must be used as supplied by Crescent Suzuki as part of the GSX-R Trophy Package and must not be modified.
Brakes
Goodrich brake hoses are fitted and are a control item and must not be modified.
The split of the front brake lines for both front brake callipers must be made above the lower fork bridge (lower triple clamp)
Any brake pad may be used.
Tyres
Dunlop is the control tyre manufacturer for the Star Championship.
All tyres used in the MotoStar Championship must be as supplied by Dunlop/Dunlop Officially appointed tyre supplier at each round, and used at that round.
Any modification or treatment (cutting, grooving, etc.) is forbidden.
The use of tyre warmers is permitted.
All the tyres used in qualifying practices, warm-up and race and will be security marked by Dunlop at that round for use at that round ONLY.
Wiring Harness
The wiring harness and connectors must be as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated machine. Cutting of the wiring harness is not permitted, but to disconnect connectors is permitted.
Transmission/Gearbox
Only the countershaft sprocket and the rear wheel sprocket can be changed.
Exhaust System
The supplied Micron exhaust silencer is a control item and must not be altered or modified in any way. The silencer baffle must not be removed.
The noise limit for Superstock 600 machines will be 105 dB/A with a post race tolerance of +3dB/A The location of the silencer must remain as original.
2.6 Logos and decals
Please see below images for placement of official sponsor stickers on bikes and leathers. Full sticker packs can be ordered from Adam Barnes at Crescent Suzuki on 01202 820170. All Official Sponsor Logos must be in the correct place for all future rounds of the ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy.
Personal sponsors/sponsorship logos and decals may be added to the fairing in the lower front half of the fairing, (white areas) below the ACU Logo only.
2.7 The following items may be altered or replaced from those fitted to the homologated motorcycle.
- Any type of lubrication, brake or suspension fluid may be used.
- Any type of spark plug.
- Any inner tube (if fitted) or inflation valves may be used.
- Any brake pads may be used
- Wheel balance weights may be discarded, changed or added to.
- Painted external surface finishes and decals.
2.8 Additional Equipment
Additional equipment not on the original homologated motorcycle may not be added with the exception of lap timing systems and data logging.
2.9 General safety instruction
Throttle controls must be self closing when not held by the hand.
All drain plugs must be wired. External oil filter(s) screws and bolts that enter an oil cavity must be safety wired.
Where breather or overflow pipes are fitted they must discharge via existing outlets.
The original closed system must be retained; no direct atmospheric emission is permitted.
Where an oil breather pipe is fitted, the outlet must discharge into a catch tank located in an easily accessible position and which must be emptied before the start of a race.
The minimum size of a catch tank shall be 250cc for gear box breather pipes and 500cc for engine breather pipes.
As all motorcycles must have a closed breather system.
The oil breather line must be connected and discharge in the air box.
3.Awards
3.1 Awards at each round
A trophy will be awarded to the first three finishers in each round
A tyre prize fund will be awarded to the first three finishers at each round:
1st Place 1 front and 1 rear tyre
2nd Place 1 rear tyre
3rd Place 1 front tyre
3.2 Annual Awards
Under 25 Award
A Suzuki GSX-R600K8 motorcycle will be awarded to the highest points scorer under 25 year old in the Championship. In the event of a tie the rider with the most wins will be classified as the winner. If there is still a tie the rider from those tying who finishes highest in the final round will become the Championship winner.
Championship
A Suzuki GSX-R1000 Motorcycle will be awarded to the highest points scorer in the Championship. In the event of a tie the rider with the most wins will be classified as the winner. If there is still a tie the rider from those tying who finishes highest in the final round will become the Championship winner.

The ACU reserve the right to alter or amend the Championship or technical regulations at any time without notice.
