R&G Racing Suzuki GSX-R Trophy

Road racing without the big expense - the 2010 ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy

THE ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy is one of the most affordable ways to go road racing in 2010 with registration fees of just £150 and then £150 entry per round for the 11-round series that takes in some of the best circuits in the UK.

To take to the track all you need is a Suzuki GSX-R600 and it doesn’t need to be a new one, it can be from 2006 - 2010. If you do want a new GSX-R600 it gets even better as Suzuki will sell to you through its subsidised Race Programme for just £4760.87 (excluding VAT) from your local dealer - but you will need to provide detailed proof of Championship registration.

There is a control tyre from Dunlop, the GP Racer D211, available at £200 a pair from series supplier Holbeach and some minimal stock modifications allowed as per the rules in 2009 – see www.gsxrtrophy.co.uk.  You will require full ACU approved safety riding gear of helmet, leathers, boots and gloves – and don’t forget the fuel to put in your bike, but that’s about it for the expenses.

The race format per round is free practice, qualifying practice (the two practices may be combined into one session with timing starting after a pre-determined period) and then two Championship races with aggregated points.

New for 2010 is a riders’ committee to work with the ACU to develop the series.  The riders have also appointed a series coordinator to manage each round with the organising club and to liaise with ACU.

The ACU’s Dave Luscombe said: “The ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy is designed to allow people to road race at a high level on a limited budget. It is open to new or experienced riders and is both competitive and great fun without costing big expense like some other series. It is all about getting people into the sport, keeping them and everyone enjoying themselves - there is no better way than this in these difficult financial times.”

At the end of the 2010 season the winner will receive the prestigious GSX-R Trophy and in each round the top three will receive trophies. Registration forms are now on line at www.gsx-rtrophy.co.uk
